JOHN W. DICKSON for ASSESSOR

Hello, I’m John Dickson, and I am proud to announce my candidacy for Township Assessor. With over 14 years of experience serving as the Makanda Township Assessor, I am committed to continuing to provide accurate and fair property assessments for our community.

I hold both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s of Science degree from Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC). After completing my education, I had the privilege of teaching Forestry at Southeastern Illinois College and Southern Illinois University. I also spent over 40 years running a successful forestry consulting and contracting business, which gave me valuable experience working with landowners and understanding the needs of our local economy.

Before being appointed as Assessor, I earned the CIAO (Certified Illinois Assessing Official) designation, which ensured I met the highest professional standards. I’ve continued to expand my knowledge with over 225 hours of continuing education, ensuring I stay on top of the latest changes in the field and provide the best service possible to our residents.

Outside of my work in public service, I run a small farm, now primarily producing hay. Over the years, I’ve also had experience with livestock ownership. This gives me a unique perspective on the agricultural needs and concerns of our community.

I am dedicated to serving Makanda Township with integrity and transparency, and I ask for your support as we continue to move forward together.
